Weather Versus Climate
The following series of lessons is designed to help 3rd grade students differentiate between weather and climate. Through various interactive and writing activities, students will be able to combine information to compare and contrast various climates. Students will also be able to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasting to prepare for, and respond to, severe weather.
Science learning is often very language-intensive. Because language is necessary for successful engagement in the scientific practices, I intend to focus on these practices by providing opportunities for students to develop the scientific practices and language simultaneously. With this lesson, my goal is to choose appropriate strategies and NMTT to support communication and language development at students’ varying proficiency levels.
